Cranford Public Schools

The Cranford public school system is outstanding. In addition to a strong and diverse academic curriculum at all levels, many athletic programs are available. There are, within Cranford, private and Township operated pre-school programs, several programs for children with special needs, and a choice of parochial schools.

The Cranford Public School District consists of five elementary schools and Cranford High School. One other school was sold and is now the Jewish K-5 Solomon Schechter Day School. The largest elementary school is the Orange School on Orange Avenue, which has 711 K-8 students. Cranford High School sends 88 percent of its graduating class to two-and four-year colleges. Fifty-four percent of the teachers have advanced degrees, including five doctorates. The high school offers advanced placement courses in Spanish, English, calculus, physics and biology. It also lets outstanding students do independent study projects under the supervision of a faculty adviser. Graduating seniors consistently win more than $200,000 in scholarships a year, including the full four-year Evelyn Fraites Schlarship, endowed by the family of a resident who died in 1988.

The 48 acre campus of Union College located on Springfield Avenue in Cranford adds even more educational appeal to the town. Students from all Union County and surrounding areas are attracted by the College's modern facilities and expanded curriculum. Union College also offers a diversified Continuing Education Program covering subjects from Introduction to Computers to Country-Western Dance Instruction. During summer vacation the College offers "College for Kids."
