Welcome to Cranford Cares for Kids
When Jane F. was diagnosed with leukemia, her family knew the determined 9-year-old was a fighter. But they didn't know just how much of the expense related to her chemotherapy wouldn't
be covered by their insurance company.Sam T., a teenager who can roller blade with the best, is being treated for lymphoma. The cost of
daily medication isn't completely covered by his mom's insurance, but the medicine is a crucial component. When they were expecting their second child, Sarah and Joe W. never anticipated the medical
problems that developed just after baby Alan's birth or the costs involved in caring for him at home during his long-term treatment.
Caring for a child with a long-term illness is a tough part of parenting...a part nobody would choose. And financial burdens associated with treatment are just one more worry. While the examples above
are fictitious, situations such as these could easily happen in Cranford. Cranford Cares for Kids is a grassroots, nonprofit foundation founded in 1993 by people just like
you; people who care about others and want to lend a hand when it's needed most; people who feel that the last thing a parent with a sick child should have to worry about is affording the treatment his
or her child needs; people who have been there themselves. Donations to Cranford Cares for Kids are used to help pay the non-reimbursed medical and medically
related costs of treating Cranford children who are 18 and under and have prolonged illnesses. These costs include but are not limited to hospital and doctor bills, equipment such as wheelchairs and
hospital beds, transportation, and parent/guardian/sibling education that will allow the family to participate more fully in the care of the child who is ill. Cranford Cares for Kids
is supported by individuals and area businesses. A Cranford Cares for Kids social worker assesses applications for assistance and makes recommendations to the
10-member board of directors. The board then determines how funds will be distributed. To become a member of Cranford Cares for Kids or to send your donation, write to Box 395, Cranford, NJ 07016.
