The Cranford

Needs Your Help
NOW

As a volunteer organization, we depend upon your support as member of the Cranford Business Community.

Please help us so that we may continue to help you!

Your firm can help us by making a tax deductible donation to the Squad. Your donation enables us to meet the costs of providing Cranford with the service it deserves!

Cranford First Aid Squad representatives would be pleased to meet with you to present information about our services or to give First Aid information to your employees. Please contact Daniel Thorn, President of CFAS, at (908) 272-7717.

Checks may be sent to: Cranford 1st Aid Squad, 6 Centennial Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016

"It'll Never Happen To Me"

If "it" does happen -- a fall, a car accident, a sudden illness, your volunteer Emergency Medical Service will respond. But will the response continue to be adequate to protect you, your family, or your friends? That depends on you.

Who Are My 'Protectors'?

Emergency Medical Service personnel are neighbors who volunteer their time and energy to provide you with professional pre-hospital care. These volunteers receive continuous training in order to meet your emergency needs. They receive no pay, only the pride and satisfaction that comes with helping others.! These volunteers need your support!

How Can I Help?

You can volunteer as:

  • Active member of a squad
  • Associate or non-riding member
  • Fund Raiser
  • Administrator
  • Computer operator

You Can Provide Financial Support

State law permits your town to budget only a small percentage of the total cost of operating your Emergency Medical Service. Most of the cost must be raised by the Squads through fund drives.

Should your town have to fund the total cost of emergency medical protection because there are no longer enough volunteers or contributions, the yearly cost could increase the total municipal budget by as much as 12%. This translates into a major increase in your tax bill.

The First Aid Squad : How it Serves You

Volunteers are on call 24 hours a day for all medical emergencies occurring within their regional lines. The Squad also performs standbys at fire scenes, sporting events, and serves as back-up (known as mutual aid) to neighboring towns.

About The New Jersey State First Aid Council

Your local squad is a member of the New Jersey First Aid Council, parent organization to over 460 squads. Their new headquarters will soon be located in Sayreville.

Membership

Most squads are open to anyone 16 and over. There are usually three types of membership.
RIDING MEMBERS - perform first aid
CADETS - students ages 16-18
ASSOCIATES - members who provide support services

Training

A riding member undergoes at least 120 hours of training to become an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
EMT training includes:
All procedures necessary for basic life support
Assisting Paramedics with advanced life support

All riding members must maintain their qualifications in these areas and must be updated periodically.

Please contact Daniel Thorn, President of CFAS, at 272-7717.
